Alfred Korzybski Memorial Lectures

The distinguished Alfred Korzybski Memorial Lecture (AKML) series began in 1952 as an annual event sponsored by the Institute of General Semantics in honor of Alfred Korzybski. Each year the Institute invites a prominent scholar or notable individual to give a lecture relating to general semantics and its relevance in today's society. Past lecturers have included inventor R. Buckminster Fuller, physicist James A. Van Allen, entertainer Steve Allen, Neil Postman and Abraham Maslow.

Conferences

The Institute periodically hosts, sponsors, and co-sponsors conferences attended by members and non-members from around the world. Conferences in recent memory were held in New York City in November 2008 (the symposium titled "Creating the Future"); Arlington, Texas, in October 2006 ("Making Sense"); and Las Vegas, Nevada, in October 2003 ("Confronting the Challenges of Conflicting World Views"). Semimar-Workshops

The Institute of General Semantics offers several seminars at introductory and advanced levels on a variety of topics. Some are regularly scheduled and some are available upon request.

The Institute has sponsored summer seminar-workshops for over 50 years that focus on teaching theory and practical applications of general semantics. The goal of these programs is to apply general semantics to help you restructure your view of yourself and the world to create more satisfying personal and professional relationships. Attendees can participate in lectures, small group discussions, exercises, demonstrations, sensing practices and social events to experience the rewards of 'living through' general semantics.
